Paracas
The desert and the sea come together in a beautiful way at Paracas, in the department of Ica, a few hours south of Lima. The cliffs that surround the beaches are full of life, millions of birds inhabit the area and thousands more migrate here from the north and south of the continent, from Guaneras to Humboldt penguins. From the port boats leave to visit the Ballestas islands where you can come into close contact with sea lions. By car you arrive at Punto Pejerrey where you will get your first glimpse of the hill where the Candelabro figure is located, it is similar to the style of the Nasca Lines although maybe has different origins; a symbol of pirates treasure, freedom fighters for independence, who knows.
On the way back you can visit the site museum and the ruins of the Paracas culture necropolis (700 B.C) the textiles from this culture are still admired around the world today. The route then leads you to a small bay, the natural habitat of the Parihuanas, the red and white birds that inspired the creation of the Peruvian flag and that do not like to be disturbed. Towards the south the beaches have beautiful rock formations like those of “La Catedral” and “Mendieta”.
