Lima
Lima, the city of kings, was always a cultural oasis in the Americas. Only a few decades after its foundation it was on a par with Mexico City as the most important city in Latin America. Renaissance and baroque temples, mansions and palaces, universities and intense cultural activity have shaped this city since its creation in the 17th century when there were only 25,000 inhabitants.
The old Rimac River valley was originally populated by fishermen and hunter-gatherers. It was here in on the 18th of January, 1535, that Francisco Pizarro founded the city of Lima owing largely to the position of its port, centrally located along the Peruvian coast and the continent.
Apart from Limas abundance of innovative culinary art, ranked by many as among the best in the world, monumental architecture which is cultural heritage rated Lima also offers the tourist a range of excellent museums, art galleries, theatres and cultural expositions of the highest quality and modern shopping and entertainment facilities.
